West Plains Flash Flood Damage Assessment

Project type

Hydrologic Analysis and Cartography

Date

April 04, 2025

Location

West Plains, MO

Recent flash flooding in West Plains, Missouri, has led to significant damage and loss of life. On Friday, April 4, 2025, the area experienced heavy rainfall, resulting in severe flooding. Tragically, a 57-year-old man from O'Fallon, Missouri, drowned after his vehicle was swept off Missouri Avenue into Howell Creek. Additionally, a 45-year-old local man drowned when his vehicle was carried into Mustion Creek near Ramseur Road.

The flooding also caused property damage. Notably, the Morlan-Shell Ford dealership suffered interior damage when floodwaters from a nearby creek inundated its parking lot and showroom. City officials have begun assessing the extent of structural and property damage.

The National Weather Service reported that between April 4 and April 6, parts of southern Missouri received up to 12 inches of rain, leading to significant flash flooding and minor to moderate river flooding.

Here using LiDAR and River Analysis System we are modeling the flood and assessing the impact and at risk communities and properties.
